Game Description

“Super Smash Bros.” is a crossover fighting video game developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. It was released in Japan in January 1999, and later in North America in April 1999, and in Europe in November 1999.

In “Super Smash Bros.,” players take control of popular Nintendo characters and battle against each other in various stages inspired by iconic Nintendo franchises. The game features a unique gameplay style where the objective is not to deplete opponents’ health bars but to knock them off the stage to score points.

Each character has a variety of attacks and special moves, and players can perform standard attacks, special attacks, and powerful smash attacks. The more damage a character takes, the farther they will be knocked back by attacks, increasing their chances of being knocked off the stage.

The game features a diverse roster of eight playable characters initially, including Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox, and Pikachu. Additional characters can be unlocked, such as Luigi, Captain Falcon, Ness, and Jigglypuff, bringing the total roster to 12.

“Super Smash Bros.” offers several game modes, including the single-player mode, where players face a series of CPU-controlled opponents, and the multiplayer mode, where up to four players can compete against each other. The game also introduces the “Bonus Practice” mode, which allows players to hone their skills and master each character’s moves.

The success of “Super Smash Bros.” on the Nintendo 64 led to its popularity and the creation of a long-running series. Subsequent installments have been released on various Nintendo consoles and have expanded the roster of characters and features, making “Super Smash Bros.” a beloved and enduring franchise among Nintendo fans.
