Game Description

“Yakuza: Like a Dragon,” also known as “Ryu ga Gotoku 7: Hikari to Yami no Yukue” in Japan, is an action role-playing game developed and published by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and Sega. It is the eighth main installment in the “Yakuza” series and was released in Japan on January 16, 2020, for PlayStation 4. The game was later released internationally on November 10, 2020, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Microsoft Windows.

Unlike the previous “Yakuza” games, “Yakuza: Like a Dragon” introduces a significant departure in gameplay and narrative by featuring a turn-based combat system instead of real-time brawling. The game follows the story of Ichiban Kasuga, a low-ranking yakuza member, who takes the fall for a crime he didn’t commit and spends 18 years in prison. Upon his release, he discovers that the Tojo Clan, the yakuza organization he was a part of, has collapsed, and his former allies have turned against him.

Ichiban embarks on a journey to rebuild his life and unravel the truth behind his betrayal. Along the way, he forms bonds with various eccentric characters who become his party members and assist him in his quest for justice and redemption.

The turn-based combat system in “Yakuza: Like a Dragon” allows players to engage in strategic battles with a party of four characters. Players can use various job classes, each with unique skills and abilities, to customize their characters and create a well-balanced team. The combat is both challenging and rewarding, with a focus on exploiting enemy weaknesses and combining abilities for devastating combos.

In addition to the main story, the game offers a variety of side activities and minigames, allowing players to immerse themselves in the vibrant and dynamic open-world environment of Yokohama.

“Yakuza: Like a Dragon” received critical acclaim for its fresh take on the “Yakuza” series, its compelling story, well-developed characters, and excellent localization that captures the humor and essence of the game. The shift to turn-based combat was well-received, providing a refreshing and engaging gameplay experience.

Overall, “Yakuza: Like a Dragon” offers an exciting blend of action, RPG elements, and a captivating story, making it a standout title not only in the “Yakuza” series but also in the realm of action role-playing games.
