The Elvira game franchise is a series of horror-themed adventure and role-playing games based on the character of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. Elvira is a fictional character portrayed by Cassandra Peterson, who is known for her gothic and seductive appearance. The character first appeared in a horror comedy movie called “Elvira, Mistress of the Dark” in 1988. The first game in the franchise, “Elvira: Mistress of the Dark”, was released in 1990 for Amiga, Atari ST, and MS-DOS.

In the game, the player takes on the role of a fledgling horror novelist who is tasked with rescuing Elvira from a wicked sorcerer. The game features point-and-click adventure gameplay, with puzzle-solving and exploration elements. The game’s success led to the release of a sequel, “Elvira II: The Jaws of Cerberus” in 1991, which continued the storyline of the first game.

The Elvira game franchise also includes “Elvira’s Horror Pack” (1997), a compilation of the first two games, and “Elvira: The Arcade Game” (1991), a side-scrolling action game developed for arcades. The franchise has not seen any new releases since the 1990s, but the character of Elvira remains a popular icon in horror culture.
