The Atari Jaguar is a home video game console that was released in 1993 by Atari Corporation. It was the last console to be released by the company and was marketed as the world’s first 64-bit console, with advanced hardware that was intended to compete with the likes of the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
The Atari Jaguar featured a unique controller design, with a number pad and multiple buttons, and was initially launched with a limited selection of games. However, the console’s library grew over time and included games such as Doom, Alien vs. Predator, and Rayman.
Despite the advanced hardware and impressive graphics capabilities, the Atari Jaguar was not a commercial success. The console faced stiff competition from newer consoles such as the Sony PlayStation and the Nintendo 64, and many of its games were criticized for being poorly designed or rushed to market.
The Atari Jaguar was discontinued in 1996, and only around 250,000 units were sold during its lifespan. However, it remains a cult classic among retro gaming enthusiasts, and some of its games are still highly regarded for their unique gameplay and technical achievements.
