Metal Max is a Japanese video game franchise that started in 1991 with the release of the first game, simply titled “Metal Max,” for the Super Famicom console. The series is known for its open-world gameplay and unique setting, which blends post-apocalyptic themes with elements of science fiction and RPG gameplay.

In the games, players control a team of characters as they explore a vast, open world filled with dangerous creatures and hostile factions. Combat takes place in real-time and features a mix of traditional RPG mechanics and vehicular combat, with players able to pilot a variety of tanks and other vehicles.

Over the years, the Metal Max franchise has spawned several sequels and spin-offs, including “Metal Max 2” (1993), “Metal Max Returns” (1995), “Metal Max 3” (2010), and “Metal Max Xeno” (2018). The series has remained popular in Japan and has gained a small following among Western gamers as well, thanks in part to its unique blend of genres and quirky, post-apocalyptic setting.
