Game Description

“X-COM: Apocalypse” is a turn-based strategy game and the third main installment in the “X-COM” series, following “X-COM: UFO Defense” and “X-COM: Terror from the Deep.” Developed by Mythos Games and MicroProse, the game was released in the late 1990s. “X-COM: Apocalypse” builds upon the series’ core gameplay while introducing new features and a futuristic urban setting.

The game is set in a futuristic city known as Mega-Primus, which is facing a new alien invasion. As the commander of X-COM, players are tasked with protecting the city and repelling the extraterrestrial forces. In contrast to previous entries in the series, “X-COM: Apocalypse” features a cityscape environment with a mixture of turn-based tactical combat and real-time strategy elements.

The gameplay is divided into two main components: the Geoscape and the Battlescape. The Geoscape involves global management, resource allocation, research, and diplomatic interactions. Players must monitor the city’s various districts, respond to alien threats, and allocate resources to research, manufacturing, and other essential activities.

The Battlescape mode involves tactical combat encounters. Players control squads of soldiers as they engage in turn-based battles against alien forces in a variety of city environments. The urban setting introduces new challenges, such as vertical movement, destructible environments, and civilian presence, requiring careful planning and strategy.

“X-COM: Apocalypse” introduces a more complex and interactive environment compared to its predecessors. Players must manage factions within the city, which can either support or oppose X-COM’s actions. Additionally, the game features a variety of alien species, each with its own characteristics and technology.

Graphically, “X-COM: Apocalypse” advances from its predecessors with improved 3D graphics and detailed cityscapes. The game’s interface and controls were designed to accommodate the new urban setting and the combination of real-time and turn-based gameplay.

“X-COM: Apocalypse” is known for its departure from the traditional X-COM formula while introducing innovative gameplay elements. The game offers a blend of strategic management and tactical combat set in a futuristic city, creating a unique and engaging experience. Whether you’re a fan of the series or interested in strategic gameplay, “X-COM: Apocalypse” provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in a dynamic and challenging battle against extraterrestrial forces within a city landscape.
