Game Description

“Twisted Metal 4” is a vehicular combat video game developed by 989 Studios and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Released in 1999 for the original PlayStation console, it is the fourth main installment in the “Twisted Metal” series. The game continues the series’ tradition of vehicular battles, unique characters, and explosive action.

In “Twisted Metal 4,” players once again participate in the destructive vehicular competition organized by Calypso, where the last driver standing earns a wish granted by Calypso himself. The game features a diverse roster of characters, each with their own motivations and vehicles, which are armed to the teeth with weapons and special attacks.

Gameplay in “Twisted Metal 4” remains focused on vehicular combat, where players choose a character and vehicle and engage in battles across various arenas. The goal is to eliminate opponents using a variety of weapons and power-ups, strategically navigating the environments while avoiding hazards and attacks.

The game offers a selection of unique arenas inspired by locations around the world, each with its own obstacles and challenges. Players can utilize environmental elements to their advantage, setting up traps and outsmarting opponents.

“Twisted Metal 4” introduces new weapons and power-ups to the series, including more destructive weapons and innovative tools for causing chaos. The game’s vehicles also feature a “Special Weapon” that provides each character with a unique attack, adding depth and variety to the gameplay.

The visual presentation of “Twisted Metal 4” features improved graphics over its predecessors, with detailed environments, vehicle models, and explosive effects. The game’s graphics contribute to the chaotic and adrenaline-pumping nature of the vehicular battles.

“Twisted Metal 4” received mixed reviews upon its release. While some appreciated its familiar gameplay mechanics and character roster, others criticized certain aspects of the game, including level design and vehicle handling. Despite the mixed reception, the game remains a part of the “Twisted Metal” series and contributes to the series’ legacy of vehicular combat and over-the-top action.
