Game Description
“Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation” is an action-adventure game developed by Core Design and published by Eidos Interactive. It was released in 1999 and is the fourth main installment in the original Tomb Raider series. The game was initially released for PlayStation, Microsoft Windows, and later for other platforms like Sega Dreamcast and macOS.
In Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, players once again take on the role of the adventurous archaeologist, Lara Croft. The game’s story is set in Egypt and revolves around Lara’s quest to prevent the resurrection of the ancient Egyptian god, Set. The game starts with a younger Lara Croft, and players get to witness a significant event from her past that sets the stage for the adventure in Egypt.
The gameplay in The Last Revelation remains true to the series’ core elements, featuring a mix of exploration, platforming, and puzzle-solving, along with third-person shooting mechanics. Players guide Lara through vast and intricately designed tombs, ancient ruins, and dangerous environments, facing various enemies and deadly traps along the way.
One of the notable features in The Last Revelation is the ability to control multiple characters, with certain sections of the game allowing players to play as different characters besides Lara. Additionally, the game introduces new moves and abilities for Lara, including a grappling hook and a backflip maneuver.
Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation received positive reviews upon release, with praise for its challenging puzzles, engaging story, and improved gameplay mechanics. However, some critics also felt that the formula was becoming repetitive at this point in the series.
Despite some criticism, The Last Revelation was a commercial success and remains a memorable entry in the classic Tomb Raider series. It continued the legacy of the franchise and further solidified Lara Croft’s status as one of the most iconic characters in gaming history.
