The game features all 12 MLS teams that were in existence at the time, as well as over 200 real-life MLS players.

In ESPN MLS ExtraTime, players can participate in various game modes, such as exhibition matches, season mode, and career mode. The game also features multiplayer modes for up to four players, allowing friends to compete against each other.
