Game Description

Defender is a classic arcade video game developed and released by Williams Electronics in 1981. The game was designed and programmed by Eugene Jarvis and Larry DeMar, both of whom had previously worked on the hit game Robotron: 2084.

In Defender, the player controls a spaceship that must defend the planet from waves of attacking aliens. The player must shoot down the aliens and protect the humans on the planet’s surface. The game also features a unique control scheme where the player’s ship can move in any direction and has both a forward and reverse thrust.

Defender was a huge success when it was released and became one of the most popular arcade games of the early 1980s. The game’s success led to several sequels and spin-offs, as well as ports to numerous home consoles and personal computers. Defender is now considered a classic of the arcade era and has been credited with popularizing the horizontal-scrolling shooter genre.
