The TurboGrafx-16 is a video game console that was released by NEC Home Electronics in 1987. It was initially released in Japan as the PC Engine and was later released in North America as the TurboGrafx-16.
The TurboGrafx-16 was unique in that it used a combination of ROM cartridges and CD-ROMs for game storage. This allowed for larger and more advanced games than were possible on other consoles of the time.
Some of the most popular games on the TurboGrafx-16 included titles like Bonk’s Adventure, Blazing Lazers, and Ys Book I & II. However, the console struggled to compete with the more popular consoles of the time, such as the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Sega Genesis.
Despite its relative lack of success, the TurboGrafx-16 is remembered as an important console in the history of video games. It was one of the first consoles to use CD-ROM technology for game storage and had a number of innovative games that have since become cult classics.
