Game Description

Centipede is a classic arcade game developed by Atari in 1980. It was designed by Ed Logg and Dona Bailey and was one of the first arcade games to be designed by a woman. In the game, players control a shooter that moves horizontally at the bottom of the screen and must shoot at a centipede that moves down the screen in a zigzag pattern. The centipede is made up of multiple segments, and when a segment is shot, it splits into two smaller centipedes. The game also features other enemies like spiders and scorpions, and players must avoid or shoot them to survive.

Centipede was a huge success in arcades, selling over 50,000 units and becoming one of Atari’s best-selling games. It was also one of the first arcade games to be ported to home consoles like the Atari 2600, the Atari 5200, and the Commodore 64. The game’s popularity led to numerous sequels and spin-offs, including Millipede, a sequel released in 1982 that added new enemies and power-ups, and Centipede 3D, a first-person shooter reboot released in 1998. The game has also been included in various arcade game collections and has been re-released on modern platforms like the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
