The Zone of the Enders game franchise is a series of mecha action video games developed by the game development company Konami. The franchise consists of two main games and a few spin-offs.
The first game, Zone of the Enders, was released in 2001 for the PlayStation 2. It follows the story of a young boy named Leo Stenbuck, who discovers an Orbital Frame, a powerful mecha, named Jehuty. He is then forced to pilot Jehuty and fight against the army of the planet Mars, which is seeking to control the Orbital Frames. The game was notable for its fast-paced mecha combat and its use of the then-new graphics engine, the PlayStation 2’s “Emotion Engine.”
The second game, Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner, was released in 2003 for the PlayStation 2. It follows the story of a new protagonist, Dingo Egret, who discovers Jehuty in the midst of a Martian civil war. The game featured improved graphics and gameplay mechanics over the first game, including a new ability to target specific enemy parts.
In addition to the two main games, the franchise also includes several spin-off titles, such as Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars, a turn-based strategy game released for the Game Boy Advance in 2001, and Zone of the Enders HD Collection, a remastered collection of the first two games released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012.
Overall, the Zone of the Enders franchise is known for its high-speed, intense mecha battles, as well as its unique storyline and characters. Despite its relatively small size, the franchise has garnered a devoted fanbase over the years.
