The Yo-kai Watch video game franchise is a series of role-playing games developed by Level-5 for Nintendo platforms. The franchise began with the release of the first game in Japan in 2013, and has since expanded to include several sequels, spin-offs, and anime adaptations.
In the games, players take on the role of a young boy or girl who discovers a special watch that allows them to see and befriend various supernatural creatures called “Yo-kai”. The games feature turn-based battles and a large open world to explore, filled with a variety of quests and side activities.
The franchise has proven to be very successful in Japan, where it has become a cultural phenomenon with numerous tie-ins and merchandise. The series has also gained a following outside of Japan, with localizations and releases in other regions such as North America and Europe.
