list of XCOM video gamesThe XCOM video game franchise is a series of turn-based strategy games with elements of real-time strategy, tactical role-playing, and simulation games. The franchise started with the release of “X-COM: UFO Defense” (also known as “UFO: Enemy Unknown” in Europe) in 1994, developed by Mythos Games and published by MicroProse. The game was a critical and commercial success, and it spawned several sequels and spin-offs.

The XCOM series focuses on an alien invasion of Earth and the efforts of a secret multinational organization called XCOM to fight against the alien threat. Players take on the role of the commander of XCOM, managing resources, researching technology, and deploying soldiers to combat the aliens.

The franchise has undergone a few changes throughout its history. In 2012, Firaxis Games and 2K Games released “XCOM: Enemy Unknown,” a reimagining of the original game with updated graphics and gameplay mechanics. The game was a critical and commercial success, and it led to a sequel, “XCOM 2,” which was released in 2016.

In addition to the main series, there have been several spin-offs and adaptations of the XCOM franchise, including “The Bureau: XCOM Declassified,” a third-person shooter set in the 1960s; “XCOM: Chimera Squad,” a standalone game set after the events of “XCOM 2”; and “XCOM: Enemy Within,” an expansion to “XCOM: Enemy Unknown.” The XCOM franchise has also been adapted into a board game and a series of novels.
