The series began in 1997 with the release of V-Rally on PlayStation, and has since been released on various platforms, including PC, Game Boy Color, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and mobile devices.

The gameplay in the V-Rally series focuses on off-road racing, with players able to choose from a variety of vehicles, including rally cars, trucks, and buggies, and race on different types of terrain, such as gravel, dirt, snow, and tarmac. The series also features a career mode, where players can start as a beginner and work their way up to becoming a professional rally driver.

V-Rally 2 was released in 1999, which introduced new features such as multiplayer modes and weather effects. V-Rally 3, released in 2002, brought the series to the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, and included new modes such as Time Attack and Challenge. V-Rally 4 was released in 2018, after a long hiatus, and featured over 50 cars and more than 50 tracks from different countries.
