The TOCA video game franchise is a series of racing games developed and published by Codemasters. The name TOCA stands for “The Olive Coast Amusements,” which was the original name of the British racing series that the games are based on.

The franchise began with “TOCA Touring Car Championship” in 1997, which focused on the British Touring Car Championship. The game was well received for its realistic physics and challenging AI, and it spawned several sequels.

In 2002, the franchise was rebranded as “TOCA Race Driver” for the fourth installment, which expanded beyond touring cars to include other types of racing such as GT, rally, and open-wheel. This was followed by several more entries, each adding new features and improving the graphics and physics engine.

In 2008, the franchise was again rebranded as “Race Driver: GRID,” which was a more arcade-style racer that focused on the adrenaline-fueled excitement of racing. The game was praised for its graphics, sound, and overall presentation, and it spawned a sequel in 2013.

In recent years, the franchise has seen a revival with the release of “GRID” in 2019, which returned to the more realistic style of the earlier games but with modern graphics and updated features.
