The franchise has been known for its atmospheric setting, unique gameplay mechanics, and modding community. The games have also been praised for their AI, which allows for realistic and dynamic enemy behavior. Despite initial financial difficulties for the studio, the franchise has gained a cult following and is regarded as a classic series in the first-person shooter genre.
