The Ridge Racer video game franchise is a series of racing games developed and published by Namco (now Bandai Namco) since its first release in 1993. The franchise is known for its arcade-style racing gameplay, drift mechanics, and high-speed races.
The first Ridge Racer game was released as an arcade game and then as a launch title for the original PlayStation in 1994. It was well-received for its smooth 3D graphics, fast-paced gameplay, and memorable soundtrack. The game spawned several sequels and spin-offs, including Ridge Racer Revolution, Rage Racer, Ridge Racer Type 4, and Ridge Racer V.
The franchise has also been released on various platforms, including handheld consoles like the PlayStation Portable and the Nintendo DS, as well as home consoles like the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.
In addition to its mainline games, the Ridge Racer franchise has also spawned several spin-offs, including Ridge Racer Unbounded, a destruction-focused entry in the series, and Ridge Racer Driftopia, a free-to-play game that was cancelled during development. The franchise also had a presence in the mobile gaming market with Ridge Racer Slipstream and Ridge Racer Draw & Drift.
