The Quest for Glory video game franchise is a series of role-playing adventure games that were developed by Sierra On-Line (later known as Sierra Entertainment) in the 1980s and 1990s. The series consists of five games, each released between 1989 and 1998.
The first game in the series, titled “Quest for Glory: So You Want to Be a Hero,” was released in 1989. It was created by Lori Ann and Corey Cole, who had previously worked on the popular adventure game “Hero’s Quest” (later renamed to “Quest for Glory” due to trademark issues). The game was unique in that it combined elements of traditional adventure games with role-playing game mechanics, allowing players to create a character and develop their skills over the course of the game.
The subsequent games in the series built upon the mechanics of the first game, introducing new characters, storylines, and gameplay features. The second game, “Quest for Glory II: Trial by Fire,” was released in 1990 and saw the player’s character travel to a new location inspired by Middle Eastern mythology. The third game, “Quest for Glory III: Wages of War,” was released in 1992 and saw the player’s character exploring an African-inspired setting.
The fourth game, “Quest for Glory IV: Shadows of Darkness,” was released in 1993 and was notable for its darker tone and horror-inspired themes. The final game in the series, “Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire,” was released in 1998 and introduced a new engine and graphics style.
The Quest for Glory series is remembered for its unique blend of adventure and RPG elements, as well as its memorable characters and settings. The games have been praised for their storytelling, humor, and innovative gameplay mechanics, and continue to have a devoted fanbase to this day.
