The Phantasy Star video game franchise is a series of role-playing games developed and published by Sega. The franchise began in 1987 with the release of the first game on the Sega Master System, and has since seen numerous sequels and spin-offs released on various platforms including the Sega Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast, and more recently, PC and consoles.

The series is set in a science fiction universe and features a mix of traditional RPG gameplay elements such as character customization, exploration, and turn-based combat, as well as unique features such as a combination of real-time and turn-based combat in some of the games.

The franchise has also spawned various spin-offs and adaptations, including a manga series and an anime series.
