NBA Jam is a basketball arcade game franchise developed and published by Midway Games. The series debuted in 1993 and has since released several sequels and spin-off titles.
The original NBA Jam was a 2-on-2 arcade basketball game that featured exaggerated, arcade-style gameplay and graphics. It quickly became popular for its fast-paced and over-the-top action, as well as its use of real NBA players and teams. The game’s popularity led to several home console ports, including versions for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the Sega Genesis.
The success of the first NBA Jam game led to several sequels and spin-offs, including NBA Jam Tournament Edition, NBA Hangtime, and NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC. The series continued to use real NBA players and teams, while also introducing new features such as create-a-player modes and enhanced graphics.
In recent years, the NBA Jam franchise has seen a revival with the release of NBA Jam: On Fire Edition in 2011 and NBA Jam: Tournament Edition for mobile devices in 2019. These games continue to offer the same arcade-style gameplay and fast-paced action that made the original NBA Jam so popular.
