The Mystery Dungeon video game franchise is a series of role-playing games developed by Chunsoft and published by various companies, including Spike Chunsoft and Nintendo. The series is known for its randomly generated dungeons and roguelike gameplay mechanics.

The franchise began with the release of “Torneko no Daibouken: Fushigi no Dungeon” (Torneko’s Great Adventure: Mystery Dungeon) for the Super Famicom in 1993. The game featured the character Torneko Taloon from the “Dragon Quest” series as the protagonist, and was well-received for its innovative gameplay and challenging difficulty.

Chunsoft continued to develop and publish Mystery Dungeon games throughout the 1990s and 2000s, with many of the titles featuring characters and settings from popular franchises such as “Final Fantasy,” “Pokemon,” and “Etrian Odyssey.” The series also saw releases on a variety of platforms, including the Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, and PlayStation.

In 2015, Chunsoft released “Fushigi no Dungeon: F?rai no Shiren 5 – Fortune Tower to Unmei no Dice” (Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 5 Plus – Fortune Tower and the Dice of Fate) for the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4, which marked the first mainline entry in the series in several years. The franchise continues to be popular among fans of roguelike games and dungeon-crawlers.
