list of Metroid video gamesThe Metroid video game franchise is a series of action-adventure games that follows the adventures of bounty hunter Samus Aran in a sci-fi setting. The franchise is known for its exploration-based gameplay, where players must navigate complex environments and battle various enemies to progress through the story.

The first game in the series, simply titled “Metroid,” was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1986. It was developed by Nintendo’s Research & Development 1 division and designed by Gunpei Yokoi and Yoshio Sakamoto. The game was a critical and commercial success and laid the foundation for the franchise.

The sequel, “Metroid II: Return of Samus,” was released for the Game Boy in 1991. It continued the story of Samus Aran as she traveled to the planet SR388 to exterminate the last remaining Metroids. The game introduced new gameplay mechanics, such as the ability to crawl, and added new enemies and power-ups.

In 1994, “Super Metroid” was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It was developed by Nintendo’s Research & Development 1 division and designed by Yoshio Sakamoto. The game was a critical and commercial success and is considered a classic of the genre. It expanded on the gameplay mechanics of the previous games and introduced new ones, such as the ability to perform a melee attack and the use of the grappling beam.

The franchise continued with “Metroid Fusion” and “Metroid Prime,” both released in 2002 for the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo GameCube, respectively. “Metroid Fusion” featured a more linear gameplay structure and a stronger focus on storytelling, while “Metroid Prime” was the first 3D game in the franchise and featured a first-person perspective.

Since then, several more games have been released in the franchise, including “Metroid: Zero Mission,” “Metroid Prime 2: Echoes,” “Metroid Prime 3: Corruption,” “Metroid: Other M,” and “Metroid: Samus Returns.” The franchise has also inspired numerous spin-offs, such as the “Metroid Prime” Pinball and “Metroid: Other M” manga.
