The Hardball video game franchise is a series of baseball simulation games that were released for various platforms from 1985 to 2001. The series was developed by Accolade, a California-based video game developer and publisher that was acquired by Infogrames in 1999.
The first game in the series, Hardball!, was released for the Commodore 64 in 1985. The game was one of the first baseball simulation games to feature a 3D perspective and allowed players to control individual players on the field. The game was successful and was later ported to other platforms, including the Apple II, IBM PC, and Atari ST.
Several sequels were released over the next decade, including Hardball II (1991), Hardball III (1992), and Hardball IV (1994). These games introduced new features such as improved graphics, expanded rosters, and updated statistics. The series also had several spin-offs, including Hardball 5 (1995), a console-only game that was the first in the series to feature 3D graphics, and Hardball 6 (1998), which introduced a franchise mode where players could manage their own team.
The final game in the series, Hardball 2001, was released for the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 in 2000 and 2001, respectively. The game featured updated rosters and graphics, but was not as successful as previous games in the series. After the release of Hardball 2001, the franchise was discontinued and Accolade was merged into Infogrames.
