Ecco the Dolphin is a video game franchise developed by Novotrade International (later known as Appaloosa Interactive) and published by Sega. The franchise began in 1992 with the release of the first game, “Ecco the Dolphin,” for the Sega Genesis. The game was critically acclaimed for its innovative gameplay, stunning visuals, and atmospheric soundtrack. The game’s plot follows Ecco, a bottlenose dolphin, as he navigates the ocean to find his missing pod, all while discovering a mysterious alien race and an impending threat to the planet.

The success of the first game led to the development of several sequels, including “Ecco: The Tides of Time” in 1994 and “Ecco Jr.” in 1995. Each game built on the previous title’s gameplay mechanics and expanded on the game’s lore and story.

Despite its popularity, the franchise has been dormant since the release of “Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future” for the Dreamcast in 2000.
