list of Baldur's Gate video gamesThe Baldur’s Gate franchise is a series of role-playing video games set in the Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) universe. The games are developed by BioWare and published by Interplay Entertainment and later by Atari and Beamdog.

The first game, Baldur’s Gate, was released in 1998 for Windows and was a critical and commercial success. It featured an isometric perspective and real-time combat with pause mechanics, similar to other classic CRPGs of the era. The game was praised for its deep and immersive story, memorable characters, and strategic combat system.

The success of the first game led to the development of a sequel, Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn, which was released in 2000. The sequel expanded on the world and characters of the first game, and introduced new features such as new classes, spells, and weapons. It also received critical acclaim and is considered one of the best CRPGs of all time.

The franchise also includes several expansion packs for both games, as well as a spin-off game, Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance, which was released for consoles in 2001. The spin-off was a departure from the main series, featuring a different combat system and simplified RPG mechanics.

In 2012, an enhanced edition of the first game was released by Beamdog, featuring updated graphics and new content. The enhanced edition was well received and led to the development of Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition, which was released in 2013.

In 2020, the franchise was revived with the release of Baldur’s Gate III, developed by Larian Studios. The game features updated graphics and a new story set in the same universe as the first two games, and has been praised for its graphics, writing, and deep RPG mechanics.
