In the games, players control the titular character, Alex Kidd, as he sets out on various adventures to save his kingdom, Radaxian, from various threats. The games are known for their bright and colorful graphics, challenging platforming gameplay, and unique power-ups and abilities.

The franchise had a successful run in the 1980s and 1990s, with the original game becoming one of the most popular titles for the Sega Master System. However, the franchise began to lose steam in the 1990s, with later games receiving mixed reviews and poor sales.
