list of Age of Empires video GamesThe Age of Empires video game franchise is a series of real-time strategy games developed by Ensemble Studios (1997-2009) and more recently by Forgotten Empires and Relic Entertainment. The games are published by Xbox Game Studios and focus on historical civilizations and their military campaigns.

The first game in the series, Age of Empires, was released in 1997 and was set in ancient times, featuring civilizations such as the Greeks, Egyptians, and Persians. It was followed by Age of Empires II in 1999, which was set in the Middle Ages and expanded on the gameplay mechanics of the first game.

Age of Empires III was released in 2005 and took place during the European colonization of the Americas, introducing new gameplay elements such as a home city and a trading card system. In 2013, a high-definition remaster of Age of Empires II was released, called Age of Empires II: HD Edition.

In 2018, Age of Empires: Definitive Edition was released, a remastered version of the first game with updated graphics and gameplay features. The series has also seen several spin-off games, including Age of Mythology, a game that blends real-time strategy with mythological elements, and Age of Empires Online, an MMO-style game that was shut down in 2014.
